Great question! It depends on the task at hand and the position you’re applying for.

I try to compose assignments that engineers experienced with the particular technology, both Full Stackers and DevOps, should solve in around four hours of work. Sure, it’ll take a Senior less time than a Junior Dev, but the evaluation of their solution would be different.

In most cases, the task does not require a deep dive into a specific technology. The goal is to test the candidate’s way of thinking and design decisions. Therefore, it shouldn’t take much longer than an additional couple of hours for developers inexperienced with this framework/DB/coding language.

As suggested in the post, a good place to mention your level of experience with each technology is the README.
